E. B. CHAPIN - As a member of the editorial fraternity is rapidly acquiring a reputation as an editor. Mr. CHAPIN is a native of Clyde, Wayne county, New York: born May 7, 1856. When but a few mouths old he was brought by his parents to Illinois, and with the exception of a short time in 1875, while he lived in Washington, D. C., has been a resident of this state ever since. His education was received in the public school at Ottawa and the High School of Ashley. While in the latter school, and when but fifteen years old, he began writing news items and short articles for various papers. He took great interest in this kind of work, and resolved to adopt it as a profession.
In company with his father, E. J. CHAPIN, he established the Tolono Herald, at Tolono. The former acted as editor and the latter as publisher. The first number was issued April 16, 1875. Although laboring under great disadvantages at first the Herald has continued to grow from the very beginning, and under the efficient management of Mr. CHAPIN, who has had complete control of it since April, 1877, has attained a large and rapidly increasing circulation throughout the county. Mr. CHAPIN was married October 7, 1877, to Miss Lucy M., daughter of James and Louisa PIERCE, pioneers of Tolono village. Mr. CHAPIN seems to be peculiarly fittted for the position in which he is placed. His success, however, may be attributed in a great measure to his assiduous industry, and his efforts to always give in return full value.
