GEORGE W. HELM - Is one of the most thorough-going business men of Crittenden township; of which he is also a native. He is the son of J. M. HELM, one of the pioneers of the township, and at the time of George's birth lived near "Bouse's Grove," but soon after removed to the present homestead, where George spent his childhood either attending the district school or assisting his father with the farm work, acquiring habits of industry and business tact which are proving rich treasures to him. At the age of seventeen he entered the Academy at Bloomingdale, Indiana, where he remained three years; going at the end of this time to the Terre Haute Commercial College; he graduated in 1875. While at Terre Haute Mr. Helm was the warm friend and associate of Prof. Garvin, the principal of the school. Since leaving school Mr. Helm has been engaged in a large and growing grain business in Sidney, and with his excellent business education, we bespeak for him a position among the leading businessmen of the county.
