HENRY RIEMKE, son of Henry and Elizabeth RIEMKE, was born in Werne, Prussia, where he resided until he grew to manhood. Leaving school when but fourteen years old, Henry began looking out for himself. He worked upon a farm for eight years, when he started to America, landing in New York on the 9th day of April, 1854, and at once started westward, locating in the northern part of Indiana, where he engaged in farming the following four years. He was married Feb. 18, 1858, to Anna, daughter of Thos. RICHMOND, of Laporte, Indiana, but now of this county. Two years subsequent to the marriage, Mr. Riemke came to Champaign county, and settled upon the Brittain farm in Pesotum township. After living upon this farm, which he had rented, for a few years, he was able to purchase the farm where he at present resides. Moving to this farm in November, 1865, he has surrounded himself with a pleasant little home. The family take great interest in fruit culture, and have some very fine varieties in their well-cultivated orchard. (See illustration on another page.)
