Sudden Death of Mrs. Amanda Grove
Relatives here recieved word Tuesday morning of the death of Mrs. Amanda Grove, which occurred Monday night at her home in Walton, Ind. Death came suddenly from heart trouble, with which she had suffered for some time. With her at the time of her death was her daughter, Mrs. G. W. Townsend of the place, who had gone to Walton last Saturday with the intention of bringing her mother here to spend the winter.
Mrs. Grove was 83 years old at the time of her death. She formerly resided north of Philo. Besides Mrs. Townsend there survive four sons, Irvin of Walton, Ind., and Eli, Evan and Harry of north of Philo, and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
The remains were brought to Sidney Wednesday afternoon and funeral services will be held at the Townsend home on Thursday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock, in charge of Rev. Wm. Pease, pastor of the Sidney Presbyterian church. Burial will be made in Mt. Hope cemetery, Urbana.

Eli Grove, 67, Dies in Hospital

Eli Grove, retired Philo farmer, died at 10 p. m. Wednesday in Burnham city hospital, Champaign, after a short illness. He had been a patient at the hospital since Sunday and had been in poor health for several years.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p. m. Saturday in the Philo Methodist church, Rev. Boyd Rudd, Methodist pastor at Paxton, will officiate, assisted by Rev. D. O. McRoberts, Philo pastor. Burial will be in Locust Grove cemetery.
Mr. Grove was born July 12, 1872, in Naperville, the son of Samuel and Amanda Erb Grove, and moved with his parents to a farm north of Philo when he was 10 years old.
He married Katie May Porterfield of Sidney February 12, 1896, and they lived on the farm north of here until 1931 when Mr. Grove retired and they moved into Philo.
Besides his wife, he leaves two children, Mrs. Vera Hinners and Lyle Grove, both of near here; three brothers, Harry and Evan Grove, both of near Philo, and Ervan Grove, Walton, Ind.; a sister, Mrs. G. W. Townsend, Sidney, and four great grandchildren.

EVAN E. GROVE DIES MONDAY AT PHILO
Philo, Sept. 11 ---(BSC) -- Evan Erb Grove, 75, retired Yankee Ridge district farmer, died at 7:45 a. m. Monday at his home here following a long illness.
Tentative funeral arrangements include services Wednesday afternoon at Presbyterian church, Philo, and burial at Locust Grove cemetery here. Reverend Edward J. Hoag, pastor, will officiate. The body is at Renner funeral home, Urbana.
Mr. Grove was born at Naperville Jan. 22, 1875, the son of Samuel and Amanda Erb Grove. They moved to Champaign county in the Yankee Ridge district north of Philo in 1882. He married Maude Kearns on Feb. 24, 1904, and they farmed for three years at Logansport, Ind. They moved back to Yankee Ridge and resided there 40 years before moving into a new home in Philo in January.
He is survived by a sister, Mrs. Hattie Townsend, Sidney; a brother Ervan, Logansport, Ind.; three neices, one nephew, and several grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers and his parents.
He was a member of the Philo Masonic lodge for 35 years and an elder in the Presbyterian church.

MRS. WILSON, 88, SUCCUMBS IN SIDNEY HOME
SIDNEY, July 5.-- Mrs. Martin VanBuren Wilson, 88 years old, died very suddenly at 8:30 o'clock Thursday morning. She had just finished breakfast, and was sitting resting when death came. Coroner Richard Shurtz was to be here sometime Thursday to make and investigation, but it was thought that an inquest would be unnecessary.
Miss Lucy Lapsley was born on Apri; 16, 1846, at Greenville, Indiana County, Pa., and lived in Pennsylvania until her marriage on March 14, 1866, to Martin VanBuren Wilson of Sidney, at the close of the Civil War. Mr. Wilson is the only living Civil War veteran in Sidney Township.

Martin Van Buren Wilson Passes in Home at 93 After Two Weeks of Illness
SIDNEY, Sept 8---(BSC)--Martin Van Buren Wilson, 93, only remaining Civil War veteran at Sidney and oldest resident of this community, died at 8:25 a.m. Wednesday at his home in the northwest section of town.
Mr. Wilson had been ill for the past two weeks with gall bladder trouble and had been in a critical condition for several days.
The deceased, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Wilson, was born Jan. 29, 1844, on a farm three and one-half miles northeast of here in a log cabin. Later his family moved to a farm one and one-half miles southeast of town.
Mr. Wilson enlisted in Company K, 150th Illinois infantry and served one year during the Civil war. On March 4, 1866, he was united in marriage with Lucy Lapsley of Greenville, Indian county, Pa., and the began housekeeping on a farm near here. Several years later they moved to town and settled in the place where Mr. Wilson resided at the time of his death, having lived there continuously for the past 56 years with the exception of seven years spent in Buffalo, N.Y.
Mrs. Wilson died July 5, 1934, at the age of 88.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. W. F. Temple of Fairmount, Mrs. Clara Hess and Mrs. Leroy Mansfield, both of Sidney; on son, Fletcher Wilson, Sidney; two grandchildren, O. W. Mansfield, San Angelo, Tex., Vera Hess of Sidney who is superintendant of home economics at the high school in Ishpeming, Mich.; two great-grandchildren, Robert Wilson Mansfield and Ruth Mansfield, both of San Angelo; and three half-sisters, Mrs. Emma Slater, Columbus, O., Mrs. William Green of Catlin, and Mrs. E. W. Gasser of Urbana.
For many years Mr. Wilson worked in the livestock shipping business. He was a member of the Presbyterian church and held a life membership in the Blue lodge 347, A. F. and A. M. Mr. Wilson's father lived to be 103 years of age.

FUNERAL RITES ARE HELD FOR MRS. M. SEANEY
Philo, June 15. -- Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Seaney, 75, who died at her home near Mt. Vernon last Wednesday night, were held at 1 o'clock Friday afternoon from the home of a daughter, Mrs. James Fitzgerald, of Pleasant Hill, with burial in Locust Grove cemetery near here. Until 22 years ago, Mrs. Seaney resided in Philo. She died of a complications of diseases.
Mrs. Seaney is survived by two sons, five daughters, a brother, and a sister.
The sons are Charles, and Mart, both residing in California. The daughers are: Mrs. John Gorman of Philo; Mrs. James Fitzgerald, Pleasant Hill; Mrs. Cora (B)Rummet, of Homer; Mrs. Anna Duncan, of Robinson, and Mabel, at home. The brother is Tom Kearns, and the sister, Sadie Kearns, both of Philo.
Mrs. Seaney formerly was Miss Mary Kearns, of Stanford, Conn. She was married 52 years ago to John Seaney.

P. H. Seaney, 80 Years Old, Passes Away
Funeral Services Will Be Held at 10:30 A. M. Thursday
P. H. Seaney, aged 80 years, resident of Champaign for the past five years, died at 2 o'clock, Tuesday morning. He has been ill for the past three months and death was due to complications, incident to old age.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 o'clock, Thursday morning, from the Stewart Funeral Home. Interment will be made in the Locust Grove Cemetery, Philo.
Patrick Henry Seaney was born in 1852 in Crawford County, Ill,
He is survived by five daughters, Mrs. J. E. Gorman, 311 West Clark Street; Mrs. Tannie Fitzgerald, 607 South Lynn Street; Mrs. Emma Duncan, Flatrock; Mrs. Cora Brummet, Homer; Miss Mabel Seaney, 607 South Lynn Street; two sons, Charles and Martin, both of Santa Barbara, Cal. His wife, Mary Kearns Seaney, died in 1928.

Death of Miss Sarah Kearns
Dated December 7, 1941
Miss Sarah Gertrude Kearns, daughter of the late Michael and Bridget Kearns and a pioneer resident of the county for over eighty years, died at the home of her niece, Mrs. Frances Fitzgerald of near Broadlands on Saturday evening at 7:15, after an illness of over two years. Death was due to arteriosclerosis and old age.
The remains were brought to the home of her niece, Mrs. Frances Fitzgerald, Monday morning and the funeral was held at 9 o'clock Tuesday morning from the St. Thomas Catholic Church, Philo, with Rev. Father George Dyzuro officiating. Interment was made in the family burial lot in St. Patrick's cemetery, Tolono.
Miss Kearns was born April 12, 1855, in Stanforn, Conn., and was 86 years of age at the time of her death. Her parents came to Sidney in 1859 where her father worked on a railroad section. They moved to Philo in 1865. She had been a resident of Philo and vicinity for 76 years and is the last member of her family.
She is survived by 18 nieces and nephews as follows: Miss Margaret Kearns, Mrs. Maude Groves, Mrs. Grace Besore, Urbana; Martin Kearns of Indiana Harbor, Ind.; Albert, John, Walter and Grover of Denver, Colo.; Martin Seaney, St. Louis, Mo.; Miss Mabel Seaney, Mt. Vernon; Mrs. Emma Duncan, Flatrock; Mrs. Cora Brummett, Homer; Mrs. Mayme Garman, Champaign; Mrs. Francis Fitzgerald, Chas. Kearns, Mrs. Anna Roberts, Kansas City, Mo.; John and Fred Kearns of California.

Obituary of Thomas Kearns
Thomas Kearns, son of Michael and Bridget Kearns, was born January 19, 1857, in Stamford, Connecticut and died January 31, 1930 in the Mercy hospital, Urbana, Illinois, after an illness of ten days from asthma and heart trouble.
He came to Sidney, Illinois, with his parents in 1859. Moved to the Kearns' farm, one half mile east of Philo in 1865. He has been a resident of Philo since then. He was the youngest of a family of eight children, all preceding him in death but one sister, Miss Sarah Kearns of Philo.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus of Urbana and St. Thomas Church of Philo.
The body was at the home of his niece, Mrs. Evan Grove, three and one-half miles north of Philo until the funeral services which were held at St. Thomas' Church, Philo, Monday morning at 9:30 o'clock, by Rev. Father Cleary. Interment was at St. Patrick's cemetery, Tolono.

Death Defeats Anniversary
Wm. M. Kearns, 76 years old, died August 12 at his home in Kansas City, Mo., just one week before the celebration planned for his wedding anniversary. Mr. Kearns worked for a time in his garden and then came into his house saying that he felt ill. He died a few minutes later. Death was caused by heart desease according to Dr. H. E. Moss, coroner. Mr. Kearns had lived in Kansas City 47 years.
He was born in Stamford, Conn., Aug. 1, 1851 and came to Sidney, Ill., with his parents when a child. Later the family moved to Philo.
Besides his widow, Mrs. Delia C. Kearns he is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Thos. Roburt of Kansas City and three sons, Chas C. at home, Fred J. of Santa Cruz, Calif., and John F. of San Francisco. Also a brother, Thos. Kearns of Philo and two sisters, Miss Sarah Kearns of Philo and Mrs. Mary Seaney of Dahlgren, Ill.
His neices, Mrs. Evan Grove and Miss Margaret Kearns of Philo, attended the funeral in Kansas City.

Former Resident Killed In Arizona
Charles Seaney, 54, formerly of Champaign county, was fatally injured in an accident at Tucson, Ariz., May 6, according to word received here. Besides his wife he leaves the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. J. E. Gorman and Mrs. J. M. Fitzgerald of Champaign-Urbana; Mrs. Earl Duncan of Flatrock; Mrs. L. S. Brummet of Homer, Miss Mabel Seaney of Mt. Vernon, and Martin Seaney of Los Angeles.

Royal Wilson, Danville, Is Buried Near Sidney
Sidney, Oct. 27. -- The body of Royal Wilson of Danville was interred Monday afternoon in Lynn Grove Cemetery, six miles southwest of Sidney. Mr. Wilson formerly resided on a farm about five and one-half miles southwest of Sidney, leaving this community about 25 years ago for Findley, where they resided for some time.
His wife died many years ago while the family lived at Findley. Mr Wilson was about 50 years old. He is survived by three sisters, and numerous other relatives.

Thomas Wilson died at his home, 504 West University avenue, Urbana, Sunday morning at 7:40 after a brief illness from influenza followed by pneumonia.
The decedant was born at Philo, March 12, 1901 and had resided in Urbana for the past six years. Besides his mother, Mrs. Lydia Walker, he is survived by the following brothers and sisters:
Ira Wilson, Philo; Fred, Walter, and Arthur Wilson of Urbana; Mrs. Josephine Reinke, St. Joseph; Miss Alice Wilson at home.
The funeral will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the home, Rev. R. C. Helfenstein, pastor of the First Christian church being in charge of the services. Interment will be made in the family lot in Locust Grove cemetery, near Philo.

Patrick Kearns, a resident of Sidney, was born about 1847 in County Clare, Ireland, and died on May 2, 1865 in the St. Louis General Military Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana of scrofula ( tuberculosis ). He was the oldest child of Michael and Bridget Kelley Kearns, and arrived with his parents in New York on July 18, 1848, on board the Robert-A. Park from Galway, County Clare, Ireland.
He lived in Stamford, Connecticut until 1858 when the family moved to Champaign County, Illinois. He enlisted in Company I of the 10th Regiment of Cavalry Volunteers on the 5th of January in 1864. He enlisted at Springfield and was trained at Camp Butler outside of Springfield.
He served as a Private in the 10th Regiment throughout 1864, and joined the New Company I of the Tenth Illinois Veteran Volunteer Cavalry on December 30, 1864. He served in that unit until his death.
He was buried May 3, 1865, in Monument Cemetery at Chalmette, Louisiana. That evolved to become the Chalmette National Cemetery. Patrick Kearns is in Section 83, Grave 6766, and is listed in their database as Patrick Kearnes. The grave marker which was added at a later date is also spelled incorrectly.

Mahomet Woman Buried--Mahomet, Ill, January 24.
Funeral services for Mrs. Reuben Bell, who died early yesterday morning were held today at the residence. Mrs. Bell had been ill for some time. She was crippled and compelled to use crutches. Her husband has been ill for several weeks. A son, Byron, came from Decatur to take care of them recently.
