He was widely known for filing and losing a $64 million lawsuit against the United States on behalf of the heirs of Charles Durkee, Governor of the Utah Terrority.

Leonard Chase Blaisdell was married to Harriett Laura (Hallie) Durkee on March 22, 1859 in Saltillo, Washington Co., Indiana. Harriett Laura (Hallie) Durkee was born on August 18, 1842 in McCoy's Landing, Kentucky. She died on August 16, 1914 in Chicago, Cook Co., Illinois. She was buried in Mt.
