Mr. James Stanage, who was well known to most of our , died at his home on Elm Street, at 10 o'clock Tuesday night. He was born March 10, 1807, at Logonda, near Springfield, Ohio, and was at his death in his 78th year. At that early date he had but the limited advantages that should be enjoyed by a poor boy. He had, however, sterling principles of integrity and honor, which was a strong characteristic in all his dealings with his fellow man, sense of justice and right commanding his actions in everything he did. He was married to Sarah C. Osborn at West Liberty, Logan county, Ohio, in 1830, from whence he came to Champaign in 1865. He had been a member of the M.E. church for forty years, but did not, on account of bodity infirmition, take an active part in church fellowship or in business for many years. He endovered, however, to live a Christian life, having for years been expecting the dread summons (which to him was welcome) that would relieve him from his sufferings. He was a loving and devoted husband and father. He was a great sufferer, and with it all exhibited a wonderful spirit of patience and resignation. For years, and up to the day of his death he was fearful he would be a source of care or trouble. He passed quietly away in full possession of his faculties, recognizing all the members of the family present.
His funeral took place from the residene of the late George Scroggs at two o'clock Thursday afternoon, and his remains were interred beside those of his wife in Mt. Hope cemetery. Revs. Best and Wilder officiated.

Died-On Sunday last, at the residence of Mrs. Charles Ellis, there departed this life Mrs. Sarah C. Stanage, wife of James Stange. For a long while she had been in feeble health, and her death was an event for which her friends and relatives were not wholly unprepared. The immediate cause it is difficult to state, but, in general terms, it may be said that partial paralysis, superinduced by general debility from prolonged illness, was the cause of her death. She was in her sixty-third year, having been born in Greenbriar county, Virginia, April 1, 1813. Her prents emigrated to West Liberty, Ohio, when she was quite young, and it is there that most of her life was spent, herself and husband settling in this city in the year 1866. At the age of twelve years she united with the Methodist church, and from that time to the day of her death was an earnest and devoted christian. During the time she was in the enjoyment of good health she was active and zealous in all good works; and in later years, while feebly passing down the shadowy side of life, by precept, example and good avice, exerted an influence for good that will live after her. Indeed, it seemed that devotion to her children and the faithful service of her divine Master were the leading characteristics of her life.
The funeral services occurred on Monday afternoon, at the residence of Mr. Ellis, and were, largely attended by those drawn together by a common sorrow at the closing up of a life so full of promise for the future. The services were conducted by Rev. Leyenberger, who read the xxiii psalm, that portion of scripture selected by Mrs. Stanage before her death, after which a hymn was sung, and then followed remarks highly appropriate to the occasion. A large concourse of friends, who seemed unwilling to omit the last office of respect to one so worthy, followed her remains to Mt. Hope cemetery, where they were deposited in a vault. She will be sincerely mourned by a larage circle of friends and relatives here and also at the place of her former residence in Ohio. A husband, two sons and four daughters are likewide sadly befret by her loss.
