Vesper lodge, No. 231, I.O.O.F., was instituted May 21st, 1857, by Deputy Grand Master G. A. Smith, of Decatur, now a resident of Sante Fe, New Mexico. The charter members were Chalenus M. Sherfy, J. P. White, Jas. M. Graham, Nathan M. Clark, A. M. Whitney, S. W. Kincaid, James Curtiss, Wm. M. Patton, and Charles H. Mills. Its last report was made June 30th, 1859, and shortly afterwards ceased to exist, but was not finally closed up unil 1867, when Champaign lodge, No. 333, had already been instituted and was in a prosperous condition.
Champaign lodge, No. 333, I.O.O.F., was instituted April 19th, 1866, by L. C. Hurd, P. G., of Urbana Lodge, No. 139, with six charter members, viz.: James A. Bowermaster, C. B. Whitmore, Jonathan Burgess, Geo. N. Richards, Valentine Baker and George W. Moore. Ancient Odd Fellows admitted same time, E. B. Smith and J. S. Davenport.
The first officers were James A. Bowermaster, N. G.; Valentine Baker, V. G.; George N. Richards, R. Sec.; C. B. Whitmore, Treasurer. The charter was granted on the 9th day of October, 1866, and is signed by J. R. Serggs, Grand Master, and Samuel Willard, Grand Secretary.
The present officers are B. F. Miller, N. G.; J. S. Lothrop, V. G.; Dan. L. Isgrigg, R. Sec.; James Y. Stevens, Per. Sec.; H. T. Shrivers, Treasurer. The present membership is fifty-five.

Brother S. K. Reed has been chaplain since its organization.
The following Past Grands represented the lodge in the grand lodge: J. Burgess one year. C. S. Morehouse one year. C. B. Whitmore two years. Joseph E. Conklin four hears, H. T. Shivvers one year, and John Bragg, four years, with one year to serve.

The lodge furnished charter members for two new lodges-Kaulbach, No. 549 (German), and Seymore, No. 597, together making seventeen members. The former of which meets in the same hall and is a strong rival of its Alma Mater. The lodge has a building fund in which there is over six hundred dollars, the object of which is to build a hall of its own.
Champaign Encampment, No. 68, I.O.O.F., was instituted August 3d, 1866, with seven patriarchs as charter members, viz.: C. S. Morehouse, C. B. Whitmore, J. Burgess, E. B. Smith, J. M. Reed, J. H. Babb and A. L. Hamer.
The first officers were J. M. Reed, C. P.; J. Burgess, H. P.; C. S. Morehouse, S. W.; J. H. Babb, Scribe; C. B. Whitmore, Treasurer, and A. L. Hamer, J. W.
The present officers of the encampment are Theodore Siegel, C. P.; Jacob Buch, H. P.; B. F. Miller, S. W.; James Y. Stevens, Scribe; George Ely, Treasurer, and Mayer Eppstein, J. W.
Thirteen patriarchs withdrew and became charter members of two new encampments-one at Urbana; the other at Mahomet.
The deputy grand patriarchs of the encampments have been C. S. Morehouse, one year; C. B. Whitmore, five years; Joseph E. Conklin, two ears; J. Burgess, one year; J. W. Spauldry, one year, and E. A. Kratz, three years, with two more years to serve.

The present membership is thirty and the average membership has been thirty-five.
Western Star Lodge, A. F. and A. M., No. 240.-The early records of this society were destroyed in the fire of July a6th, 1868. Henry Trevett was Secretary and L. W. Faulkner, W. M.
The following were the charter members:-John Dallenbach, Archibald P. Hensley, Matthias L. Dunlap, William B. Fowler, Henry C. Whitney and N. C. Beasley.
First officers.-A. M. Whitney was the first worshipful master of the lodge. John Dallenbach was S. W.; A. P. Hensley J. W. The charter of the lodge bears the date of October 7th, 1857.
The membership is one hundred and fourteen, and the present officers are W. M., H. J. Dunlap; S. W., E. A. Kratz; J. W., S. D. Conant; Treas., Henry Trevett; Secretary, S. A. Broadwell; S. D., Cal. C. Staley; J. D., John Dallenbach, Jr.; S. S., Al. Collingwood; J. S., E. DeBurn; R. B., Mussen, Tyler.
The Chapter.-The charter of this was dated on the 30th of Sept 1859.
