Lineages - Thomas Waller Beckett Family

Submitted by Scott Beckett

This photo is of my Grandfather, THOMAS WALLER BECKETT in his Champaign Police uniform. "Big Tom", as he was known, served on the URBANA Police Force as Chief of Police from 1907 to 1909. He moved to a farm around PHILO, ILLINOIS were they lived and farmed until he accepted a position on the CHAMPAIGN Police Force on September 15, 1921. He was the first sergeant appointed on the CHAMPAIGN Police Force; however, he refused the promotion and stayed a patrolman until he retired from the force on October 1, 1941 after 20 years of service.
