My g-grandfather, Virgil Calvert died in Champign on June 24, 1904. He was employed with Urbana/Champaign Railway and Gas Co. as a lineman at the time of his death. A Murphysboro newspaper article says that he was working on wire pole in front of WW Walls and Co. on University Ave. in Champaign when he was electrocuted by a live wire. It then goes on to say that he was taken to Mittendorf & Kiler's mortuary, then to Charleston for burial. The Collins clan is listed in the 1850 Champaign co., census. Joseph and (Delana) and the younger children and next door Adam and Alcy and a daughter. Joseph Collins married Dillaney Smallwood in Surry County, North Carolina, 13 September 1818. They had at least seven children in North Carolina: Adam, Winston, William, Hiram, Fanny, Joseph and Mary, and then moved to Champaign co., Ill. between 1839 and 1844. In Illinois they had Elizah. Adam and Alcy moved to Dallas co., Iowa between 1852 and 1855. According to the Illinois Marriage index Alcy's maiden name was also Collins and the 1870 Iowa census lists her birth place as Tennessee. Joseph the son of Joseph and Dillaney followed Adam to Dallas co., Iowa in 1861 and married Mary Ganoe (Gano) who had been a neighbor back in Champaign co.. They probably attended the same one room school. Many of the siblings are listed as being married in Champaign co., in the Illinois Marriage Index. I am researching this family and would like to correspond and share information with and long lost cousins or other family members.

I would like to obtain an obituary for Mathias P. Covert who died 4 Oct 1886 in Rantoul, Ill. An obit was published 6 Oct 1886 in the Champaign County Gazette, according to a secondary source. I believe he left descendants in the county.
My purpose is to discover whether the obit mentions a sister, Anna (Covert) Bailey, who lived in Lockport, Niagara Co., N.Y. and died 4 July 1889, probably in Lockport. She was the wife of George Washington Bailey. Proving that she was Mathias's sister is beginning to seem easier than proving her parentage directly. She and George were my gt-gt-grandparents.
