Leonard Jackson Gilliland the son of Leonard and Anna Strack(who was born in Saddoris, Champaign Co. Illinois.) Gilliland,was born on a farm near Humboldt Iowa. Following his eduction he worked on various farms in the area. He was employed as a construction worker, building the Highway 3 bridge and the Humboldt Hotel. On 2 November 1940 Leonard was united in marriage to Emma Dietrich. He served in the United States and in the European Theatre. Following his discharge he returned home, where he owned and operated the Humboldt Radiator Shop until 1958 when he returned to farming. He retired from farming in 1983, and became employed with Farmegg until 1997. Mrs Gillliland passed away in February of 2000. and he continued to maintain his home in Humboldt.
Mr Gilliland is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Frank Rathke of Humboldt, granddaughters Cynthia, Mindy, and Mellissa. His sisters Mrs Pearl Terwilliger, Mrs Jennie Blanchard. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Emma, Letha Vinsand and Minnie Sorensen. and a brother Carl. He died 26 September 2001 Fort Dodge Iowa
